She moved towards the podium, her name only seconds away from being announced.
Politics had fascinated her for as long as she could remember.

Her charcoal suit sat perfectly against her frame, tailored with quiet precision. Beneath the jacket, a soft blush pink blouse moved like gentle ripples with every step.
She had always loved pink.
Years ago, someone had suggested she wear darker colours if she wanted to be taken seriously. Navy. Black. Nothing too feminine. She smiled to herself. They had mistaken femininity for weakness.
The pink stayed.
It reminded her she didn't have to become someone else to lead. She could be soft and strong. Compassionate and courageous.

As she walked, her knee-high pointed leather boots announced every step. Their slender stiletto heels echoed across the polished floor.
Confident. Purposeful. Unapologetic.
The room fell silent as her name rang through the auditorium. Media cameras turned. Supporters stood proudly. Political opponents waited with folded arms.
Everyone expected an announcement. Few were expecting this one. Violence against women was no joke, and she was about to change the conversation for every woman who had ever felt unprotected or unheard.
She stepped behind the podium.
For a brief moment, she became aware of everything. The warmth of the stage lights. The polished leather resting against the back of her calves. The sea of faces before her. Every camera fixed firmly in her direction, broadcasting her words across the state.
She took one slow breath.

Her voice was calm.
Steady.
Certain.
