THE WAISTCOAT VEST - SPRING TREND

It had been one of those days.

Emails. Phone calls. Meetings moved, then moved again. Lunch eaten at her desk and a coffee she'd forgotten about until it was cold.

As a PA, she was used to keeping everything moving. Her diary wasn't really hers, her phone rarely stopped, and somehow she always knew where everyone else needed to be.

By five thirty, she was watching the clock.

Dinner with the girls was in forty minutes.

She flew home and headed straight for her wardrobe.

There wasn't time to start again.

She was still wearing the tailored vest she'd paired with black slacks that morning. Structured, polished and one of her favourite pieces.

The vest was staying.

Instead, she slipped off her work pants and reached for a long, floaty skirt.

Suddenly, the vest felt completely different.

The tailoring against the softness of the skirt gave it an almost bohemian feel. Still styled. Still polished. But relaxed, feminine and much more her.

She loosened her hair, changed her shoes, grabbed her bag and was out the door.

When she arrived, her friends were already at the table.

There were hugs, compliments on her outfit and the immediate chatter that happens when women who haven't seen each other for a while finally get together.

Within minutes, the busy day seemed somewhere else.

She sat back, ordered a glass of bubbles and smiled as everyone began talking at once.

She looked down at the vest she'd worn through meetings, emails and a very long afternoon.

Same piece.

Completely different feeling.

Perhaps that was why she loved it.

The best pieces in her wardrobe didn't ask her to become someone different.

They simply moved with her from one part of her life to another.
